Join us for an incredible event!

Musica Sierra is privileged to showcase the Red Hoop Singers in this year's esteemed "Year of the Bird" theme, which honors the abundant avian diversity of the Sierra Valley. The Red Hoop Singers will enchant audiences with six new round dances and powwow songs specially composed for this occasion. These performances will highlight the vibrant cultural heritage and rich storytelling traditions of the Washoe and their neighboring tribes. This captivating event celebrates the fusion of art, culture, and community within the scenic Sierra Valley, the ancestral lands of the Washoe Tribes.

Yr. of the Bird Commission—for kids

Martin Montgomery expressed his excitement for the collaboration, stating, "The Year of the Bird provides such a wonderful opportunity to share the many stories, dances, and songs our group has to share." The Red Hoop Singers comprise members from various tribes, including Washoe, Paiute, Shoshone, Miwuk, Chumash, and Maidu, each contributing to the rich tapestry of indigenous culture.

About The Red Hoop

The Red Hoop Singers, rooted in the Washoe Tribe and established in 1994 in Dresslerville, Nevada, bring a profound cultural resonance to the event. Led by Martin Montgomery, an enrolled member of the Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California, the Red Hoop Singers will enchant the audience with traditional songs and dances honoring the birds of the Sierra Valley.

Marjorie Voorhees

Marjorie, born and raised in Sierra Valley, has been creating stunning stained-glass art for over 30 years. Her fascination with the beautiful colored glass she found at old dump sites in the Sierra Valley as a child blossomed into a vibrant career as a stained-glass artist and educator. Marjorie is also skilled in restoration and takes on private commissions. She runs her shop, “Country Class Collectables,” at The Sattley Cash Store, where she sells her stained-glass jewelry, gemstones, metalwork, and artifacts.

The Headwaters Stained Glass Project began when Musica Sierra approached Marjorie to create a custom window for the Old School House in Loyalton, CA. This building is set to become Sierra Valley's only performing arts center, dedicated to cultural enrichment and managed by Musica Sierra. The project was funded by a prestigious grant from the Upstate Creative Corps. Musica Sierra is incredibly honored to house these timeless works of art in their space.
